Helloooo:)
We're back at the base, where everything is decorated for... CHRISTMAS! It is super hot and midsummer..... weird:) haha
PNG was great. We flew into Port Moresby and spent a night there at a YWAM base that is starting up. We then spent 5 days in a village called Berena, where we stayed in the Pastor's home. Everyone in PNG is super super hospitable and generous. The pastor and his family moved out of their rooms so we could sleep in them; they slept in the living room! They prepared food for us every single day, each meal too. We ate a lot of rice, noodles, bananas!, spam, and breadfruit. We did a program pretty much every day, a few days we did two. We did testimonies, dramas, skits, etc. I can't say this is my FAVORITE type of ministry but it was very good for me to have to speak in front of crowds. It was awesome to see God move in our prep times. We would individually pray and it was really cool to see how God individually spoke to us and yet how it all tied together. Even during the programs where I felt it was randomly thrown together, it ended up really flowing and working out. :) I think after every single program we did in Berena we came back with loads of mangoes, billums, jewelry, bananas, coconuts, and whatever else. Like I said, the people in PNG are soooooooo generous!
We left Berena and traveled about an hour and a half to a village called Hisiu. We stayed in a room in the church and once again were very very well taken care of our whole time there. We didn't have to cook for ourselves once, which initially is what we were planning on doing. We did the same type of programs during our time in Hisiu. There are a lot more teenagers and children in Hisiu. I got close with a few of the girls, so saying bye was sad. In Hisiu, most of our programs were in the evening. One night, one of the guys on our team really challenged the people with his message. He encouraged people to come up for prayer at the end. So after we finished, we all stood and waited for whoever wanted prayer to come. I remember seeing one lady walk towards Jessica for prayer, and then I saw a girl making a B-line for me. So I was praying for her and when I finished, honestly, all 8 of us had a LINE of people waiting for prayer! A lot of children came to us for prayer, and it was cool to be able to just pray over their lives and for them. There is such purity and innocence in children, and I just see that God has such a heart for kids, they are the next generation so it was cool to pray for them to rise up as men and women in Christ.
PNG is known as a Christian nation. But a lot of what we found as a team, is that the people know about Jesus and all the right answers, but their lifestyles don't line up with what they say they believe.
Overall, it was really an awesome experience. I loved having a team of just 10 people, it is such a different dynamic than our DTS of 37. We all got along really well, and for the most part there was no tension or cliques. I feel like God became real to me again over this trip, which is awesome. He blows my mind, for real. Thank you all for your prayers. They mean more than we'll ever know:)
