So on Monday we went to Parliament to prayer walk/ chat with people. Katy and I saw a red hat and a gigantic sign flapping in the wind a ways away so we decided to see if we could help. We ended up chatting with him for probably 45 minutes. His name is Gunta; he is from Germany and was protesting on the Parliamant lawn. He asked if we were tourists and we explained, instead, about what YWAM is all about. He told us that he doesn't believe in God, but he wasn't trying to push anything on us. Katy asked him why he doesn't believe in God and he went on to talk about he used to go to church as a kid but walked away from his faith as a young adult. He basically just said that there is no evidence of God. We brought up the wind and such things and how you can't see them but you can see the effect of them. He went on to talk about gravity and agreed with us but his biggest thing was just that their is no evidence. He asked why we believe there is a God and I'm not very impressed at all with our answers. Talking afterwards with Katy, we both realized a bunch of testimonies we should have shared. He even said that as we were talking, that we would probably be laying in our beds and think of all these different things we could have/should have said during our conversation. We all laughed and said, "probably." He talked about how he feels that christians use God as a crutch and as a way to answer questions but when asked what he believes about where the world came from he went on about different scientifc beliefs and studies but never really said that he believed in them. He openly admitted to not know all the answers, and we definently did as well. It was a really cool conversation where we were able to not push anything on him and he didn't push anything on him. We listened to him the majority of the time and I know it really blessed him to have us listen and spend time with him. He was the sweetest old man, very open and willing to share. He handed us a few papers before we left having to do with his cause and pointed out his email address. I could see a hunger in him for truth, whether or not he admits to that/realizes that, I'm not sure...
Katy and I are going to email him in the near future...
